Press Releases
Press releases are a great marketing tool. When a company has something exciting to say, or an event to publicize, nothing fits these requirements like a well-crafted press release.
Press releases are just the ticket to announce a promotion, addition of a new line of merchandise, a new hire, or a physical move. More to the point, newspapers and local magazines want your news! Professionally written copy has a fast track to getting into a local paper. Reporters are busy folks and will take the easiest path to meet a deadline. Let Biz-comm prepare a press release that avoids the recycle bin.
Tip: As a former business desk editor at a daily newspaper, Patrice Olivier-Wilson cautions a company not to wear out its credibility with an editor. Don't waste an editor's time with useless "news." It may seem newsworthy to a company to announce that they just did "such and such," but an editor judges the information based on her readership's interest. So the hire of a new administrative assistant may be significant to Jones & Company, but does the readership care? Well, maybe if the administrative assistant is Oprah, but otherwise, it is a waste of time and effort to submit the information. If a company peppers an editor with too many of these type of "press releases," as soon as the editor sees the return address on the envelop or email, it is trashed.
